Frequently Asked Questions
You might have questions before reaching out. Here are some answers to questions that people ask most often.
-
You do not need a referral to book an appointment. However, if you would like to access Medicare rebates, you will need a Mental Health Treatment Plan and referral from your GP, psychiatrist or paediatrician. Eligible clients can access Medicare rebates for up to 10 individual sessions per calendar year. Client accessing treatment through Workers Compensation or CTP funding require a valid referral.

The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. We will talk about what has brought you to therapy, your history and context, and what you are hoping to get from our work together. There is no pressure to share more than you feel comfortable sharing.
-
If you are struggling with your mental health, feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or like things are not improving on their own, therapy is worth considering. You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from psychological support. If you are unsure, you are welcome to get in touch before booking.

This is different for everyone and depends on what you are bringing to therapy and what you are hoping to achieve. I review progress regularly and will always be honest with you about where things are heading.
-
I use an integrative approach, drawing from several evidence-based therapies depending on what suits you best. These include Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), somatic and mindfulness-based approaches.
-
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing. It is a well-researched therapy for trauma and PTSD and can also be helpful for other difficulties where past experiences continue to affect how you feel and function. Whether it is appropriate for you is something we would explore together.

Yes. I offer video and phone appointments for clients across Australia. Telehealth is just as effective as in-person therapy for many presentations and provides a more accessible option for some clients.
-
I offer individual therapy for adolescents and adults. I do not offer individual therapy for children under 12. Parent management support is available for parents of children of any age.
-
Yes. Confidentiality is a cornerstone of psychological practice. There are a small number of legal and ethical exceptions, such as imminent risk of harm or a court subpoena. I discuss these limits with all clients at the start of our work together.

My fee is $280 per 50-minute session. With a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan and referral, you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate of $145.25 per session for up to 10 individual sessions per calendar year, making your out-of-pocket cost $134.75. Private health fund rebates may also apply, depending on your fund and level of cover. Please see the Fees page for full details.

Yes. I am SIRA accredited and can provide psychological services to clients funded through workers compensation or CTP (compulsory third party) insurance. If you have been referred through one of these pathways, please get in touch and I can guide you through the process of getting started.

If you need to cancel or reschedule, I ask for at least 48 hours’ notice. Late cancellations and missed appointments may incur the full session fee, as this time has been reserved especially for you. Medicare and private health rebates can not be applied to cancellation/no show fees.
